Hello fellow travelers and bloggers, thank you for visiting my TravelingReal blog. I’m Howie Karp, a world traveler, a city planner, a fast walker, a spontaneous explorer and true friend, among other things. This blog came into existence only a short time ago after landing in Peru; but the title — Traveling Real — I’ve been doing, or trying to do, for years.

My thoughts about the title are always evolving. And I’ve come to realize that a lot of it doesn’t necessarily have to do with literal travel but instead taking advantage of your surroundings in a way that is “real” or authentic to you.

For example, if your passion is exploring a city’s neighborhoods and public transit systems then don’t feel obligated to visit Pier 39 and Alcatraz when visiting San Francisco. And speaking of San Francisco — born and raised in this city, its amazing neighborhoods and food provide endless entertainment. I especially love The Mission District for its incredible vibe: Hanging out in Dolores Park is hands down one of my favorite activities in this city – and it’s completely free.

Well, enjoy my blog, make comments and here’s to Traveling Real!
